Stanley Speeds to Firecracker 50 Victoryadmin
MERIDIAN, Idaho—The Speed Tour Sprint Cars thundered into the quarter-mile asphalt bullring that is Meridian Speedway on Saturday, July 4, for the speedway’s annual Stinker Stores Firecracker 50 feature. Front row starters Kyle Bergener and Cory Lockwood paced the eleven car field to green as the full moon rose over turn two.
The green flag waved and Lockwood motored around Bergener’s Graco Models, Under Pressure Massage sprinter for the top spot with Middleton, Idaho’s Hunter Stanley in his tire tracks. An early caution bunched the field and brought Stanley’s Grip Suspension, Mighty Auto Parts entry to Lockwood’s outside for the restart.
In a replay of the Speed Tour Sprint Cars’ first visit to Meridian Speedway, Lockwood rolled into the gas and surprised Stanley to take his Stinker Stores, Turning Point Brands sprinter to the top of the Pepsi-Cola scoreboard. But another caution would quickly follow, re-setting the Lockwood-Stanley front row showdown.
This time Stanley got the drop on Lockwood and took the high line to the lead. This dropped the Nampa, Idaho racer into the clutches of Bryan Warf, who slid his Knapp Auto, Hunziker Racing machine high and low looking for a way into the runner up spot. At the race’s halfway point Warf made his move and with a late dive through traffic in turn one the Meridian, Idaho open-wheel racer dispatched Lockwood.
Warf’s heroics were for naught as trouble began to brew under the hood of Lockwood’s machine. What was later diagnosed as a missing radiator cap allowed water to pour from the stricken orange sprinter, and forced Lockwood to the pit area one lap later.
This left clear race track between Warf and Stanley, space that was quickly erased as Warf marched forward. With eight laps to go lapped traffic allowed Warf to lock in on Stanley’s tail tank and the fight for first was on.
Warf’s sprinter was good entering the corner, but had developed a push which hampered his straightaway speed and allowed Stanley to scoot away in the closing laps. Most recent Speed Tour Sprint Car winner Casey Tillman brought his Ready Made Plastic Trays, PFC Brakes machine home third, followed by Bergener and Justin Segura.
