Opposites Attract for Labor Day Double Header

The Speed Tour Regional Sprint Car Series celebrates Labor Day weekend with a two-tracks-in-two-days double header this Saturday, August 31, and Sunday, September 1.  Saturday the tour rolls into Hermiston Raceway in Hermiston, Oregon for Open Wheel Thunder presented by White Claw Hard Seltzer.  Sunday, September 1, the tour scrambles to Meridian Speedway in Meridian, Idaho for Ultra Touch Car Wash Ladies Night.

Known colloquially as the Hermiston Super Oval due to its three-eighths mile layout and sweeping, high-banked corners, Hermiston Raceway’s all-time track record sits at a lightning fast 12.66 seconds—an average of 106 miles per hour.  It’s a mark that will come under heavy fire from each and every Speed Tour Regional Sprint Car Series competitor Saturday.

Point leader Colton Nelson rolls into Hermiston Raceway hoping his experience can overcome the outright speed of Middleton, Idaho youngster Hunter Stanley.  The abrasive surface of the three-eighths mile oval figures to greatly wear the super soft sprint car tires, meaning that tire conservation, and the ability to search the track’s wide corners for grip, will be key.

Then there are the tight confines of Meridian Speedway.  Affectionately known as the Concrete Jungle, the semi banked quarter-mile oval in the heart of downtown Meridian, Idaho features two-groove, close quarters racing.  With perpetual traffic and no room for error, drivers need to be inch perfect all night, a tall task when clicking off sub-twelve second laps.

General admission to Saturday’s Open Wheel Thunder presented by White Claw Hard Seltzer is $20 for adults, $17 for students, seniors, and military members, $12 for kids 7-11.  Kids 6 and under get in free.  Gates open at 4:30 p.m. with races going green at 6:00 p.m.  For more information, log on to the Hermiston Raceway website at www.hermistonraceway.com

General admission to Sunday’s Ultra Touch Car Wash Ladies Night is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and military members, $7 for kids 7-11, and free for kids 6 and under.  Gates open at 4:45 p.m. Sunday with racing at 6:45 p.m.  Log on to the Meridian Speedway site at www.meridianspeedway.com for more information on Sunday’s race action.
