Meridian Drops Green on Speed Tour this Saturday

Hold onto your hats open wheel fans for the debut of the Speed Tour Regional Sprintcar Series.  The best of the best sprintcar combatants from Utah, Idaho, and Oregon descend on the bullring at Meridian Speedway for the first of eight meetings in 2019.

A two groove, progressively-banked quarter-mile asphalt oval, Meridian Speedway presents a unique challenge to open the Speed Tour season.  With just enough room to move through both competition and lapped traffic while clicking off eleven-second laps, the little track under the big yellow water tower provides more high-octane thrills than nearly any other in the region.

The Speed Tour Regional Sprintcar Series looks to be wide open as winged sprintcar phenom Bryan Warf steps aside to pursue other racing interests.  Meridian, Idaho native Colton Nelson is eager to step into Warf’s dominant role, and having the season opener held at his home track bodes well for the twenty-two-year-old in the number 28 Miller Lite machine.  But Nelson has fast company in the form of fellow Meridian regulars Cory Lockwood, Justin Segura, and Matt Elliott if he hopes to kick off the 2019 season with a win.

That’s not to say an out-of-state driver couldn’t pull an upset, as a number of speedy Salt Lake City sprinters and ultra-fast Oregonians look to play spoiler to the hometown hopefuls.  There’s only one way to see how this battle plays out—pick up your advance tickets online at www.meridianspeedway.com and see for yourself who takes home the first round of the Speed Tour.

General admission tickets to the Speed Tour Regional Sprintcar Series are just $12 for adults 12 and up, $10 for military members and seniors 60 years and older, and $7 for kids 7-11.  Gates open at 4:45 p.m. with qualifying at 5:45 p.m. and racing at 6:45 p.m.  Stay tuned to www.speedtoursprintcars.com to keep up with all the latest sprintcar news from around the region.  We’ll save a seat for you at Meridian Speedway this Saturday, April 20, for the Speed Tour Regional Sprintcar Series.
